Areca palm (Chrysalidocarpus lutescens or Dypsis lutescens), also called the yellow butterfly palm and golden cane palm is one of the easiest palm trees to grow indoors. The Areca palm very rarely flowers potted or indoors. It ideal for gardeners who want a low-maintenance, hardy palm tree. Clean the areca palm seed using a knife, cut into the fibrous husk that covers the seed and peel it off to reveal the smooth seed inside. Viable seeds, soaked for 10 minutes in a solution of hot sulfuric acid, can be expected to germinate in about 6 weeks. Bury the seed in the potting mix to a depth so that its top surface is just barely visible. Cover them with straw husk to maintain moisture and heat .Water the pot twice a day or as necessary to keep the top couple of inches of potting mix moist. Seeds will start germinating from 4 to 7 weeks.
